How Fast Can a Chimpanzee Run?
A chimpanzee can run at speeds up to 25mph which is about 40.2km/h. Chimpanzees are around 1-1.7 meters tall which is about 3.3-5.6 feet. As for weight, chimpanzees can weigh anywhere from 32-60kg which is about 71-132 pounds. The gestation period for a chimpanzee is around 8 months. A newborn chimpanzee will weigh around 1.8kg which is about 4 pounds. The infant chimpanzees will usually cling on to their mother or ride on her back from around the first 6 months to 2 years. A chimpanzees coat will usually be brown or black. Chimpanzees have the ability to stand and walk upright, but they mainly walk on all fours. When chimpanzees walk on all fours they lean on their knuckles, this is called knuckle walking. Chimpanzees live in communities which usually have around several dozen members. Within a community their are subgroups called parties. Also within a community the chimpanzees have a social hierarchy. In each community there is an alpha male who leads the group. In chimpanzee communities the alpha male isn't always the biggest strongest male. Sometimes the alpha male is the most manipulative male who has made alliances with many of the other chimpanzees. Chimpanzees will often sleep in trees using nests made from leaves. As for diet, chimpanzees eat things like fruit, insects, leaves, seeds, and eggs. Chimpanzees will also hunt monkeys and wild boar. When chimpanzees hunt, some hunt alone and some hunt in groups. Chimpanzees are intelligent and have been known to use tools. Chimpanzees will use sticks to get insects from their nests and grubs out of logs. There has been a lot of debating over the strength of chimpanzees. Some studies say that a chimpanzee is around 4 times stronger than an average human while others say that chimpanzees are only twice as strong. As for lifespan, a chimpanzee will live up to around 40-45 years in the wild. A chimpanzee can live longer than that in captivity.
