How Fast Can a Dolphin Swim?
To be more specific since there are many species of dolphins, we will mostly be talking about the bottlenose dolphin. These dolphins are very intelligent and easy to train. You have probably seen them in shows at Sea World, they have even been used by the military in missions to find underwater mines. A dolphin can swim at speeds of around 18.5-25mph which is about 29.8-40.2km/h. The speeds of a dolphin can vary depending on the species. The common dolphin is a faster swimmer than the bottle-nosed dolphin. Bottlenose dolphins are however less timid than the common dolphin. The body size of a dolphin can depend on the species of dolphin being talked about. The body of a bottlenose dolphin is around 2-4.2 meters long which is about 6.6-13.8 feet long. As for weight, a bottlenose dolphin will weigh around 150-650kg which is about 331-1,433 pounds. Dolphins are mammals which means they are warm blooded. Bottlenose dolphins will usually travel in groups and communicate by using sounds like squeaks and whistles. As for diet, bottlenose dolphins like to eat things like fish, shrimp, and squid. Then the sounds bounce back to the dolphin that sent the sounds which reveals the location, size, and shape of the object. Dolphins also have excellent eyesight but their sense of smell is not that great. A bottlenose dolphin will usually have a total of 72-104 teeth.
