How Fast Can a Grizzly Bear Run?
A grizzly bear can run at speeds of around 35mph which is about 56.3km/h. The body of a grizzly bear is around 2-2.8 meters long which is about 6.6-9.2 feet. Some grizzly bear can become even larger being 3 meters tall which is about 9.8 feet. These grizzly bears can be around 1.5 meters at the shoulder which is about 4.9 feet. As for weight, a male grizzly bear can weigh around 180-410kg which is about 397-904 pounds. A female grizzly bear will weigh around 132-204kg which is about 290-450 pounds. Unlike black bears, grizzly bears have a shoulder hump. The shoulder hump on a grizzly bear is a large mass of muscle which powers the forelimbs. Grizzly bears have a dished-in profile and short rounded ears. The claws of a grizzly bear are around 5-10cm long which is about 2-3.9 inches. The "grizzly" in "grizzly bear" means grizzly as in grizzled fur and does not mean grisly as is gruesome. Grizzly bears have an excellent sense of smell and it is said that their sense of smell is 7 times greater than a bloodhounds sense of smell. Grizzly bears will mate in the summer but the implantation of the egg will be delayed until around October or November. The gestation period for a grizzly bear is around 180-250 days. When grizzly bears have offspring the cubs are usually twins. The cubs stay with their mother and the mother will rear the cubs for around 2-3 years. As for diet, grizzly bears eat things like roots, fruits, leaves, nuts, shoots, grasses, seeds, fish, and carrion. Grizzly bears will also hunt things like rodents, deer, elk, and moose. As for lifespan, a grizzly bear can live for over 25 years in the wild. Grizzly bears are usually solitary but will feed together in places like salmon streams. Grizzly bears mark their territory by doings things like rubbing their bodies against trees and scratching marks into the bark of trees.
