How Fast Can a Mountain Lion Run?
A mountain lion can run at up to speeds of 45-50mph which in kilometers per hour is around 72-80km/h. The body of the mountain lion is around 1.2-1.6 meters which in feet is around 5.2 feet long. That's excluding the tail which is 0.75-0.85 meters which in feet is about 2.5-2.8 feet long. As for weight, a male mountain lions weigh around 52-82kg which in pounds is around 115-180 pounds. Female mountain lions weigh around 36-61kg which in pounds is about 80-135 pounds. Mountain lions are excellent tree climbers and when running can leap as far as 12 meters which is 40 feet. As for jumping height, a mountain lion can jump as high as 4.6 meters which is around 15 feet. Mountain lions are usually solitary except when mating. As for diet, mountain lions hunt large prey like deer but also prey on smaller things like rabbits, coyotes, raccoons, rodents, feral pigs. They have even been known to go after domestic livestock. Mountain lions will usually drag their meal to another location and hide it under leaves and debris to lower the chances of losing the carcass to other predators. Doing this will also help minimize spoilage of the carcass. The mountain lion doesn't usually sleep close to the carcass but will stay within 50 meters of it. The gestation period for a mountain lion is around 90 days. A mountain lion will give birth to about 1-6 offspring. The mountain lion will usually give birth to around 3 offspring. The offspring of a mountain lion are referred to as cubs. The cubs of a mountain lion are born blind and do not open their eyes until later. As for lifespan, a mountain lion will live for around 12-13 years in the wild.
