How Fast Can a Spotted Hyena Run?
A spotted hyena can run at speeds up to 37mph which in kilometers per hour is about 60km/h. The body of a spotted hyena is around 2.01 meters long which is about 6.6 feet long. A spotted hyena is around 1.00 meter tall at the shoulder which is about 3.3 feet tall at the shoulder. As for weight, a spotted hyena weighs anywhere from 41-91kg which in pounds is about 90-200 pounds. As for diet, spotted Hyenas will hunt pretty much any type of prey they see whether they see antelope or even hippos. Spotted hyenas have been known to chase prey at high speeds for 3km. Spotted hyenas have strong jaws and broad molars which give them the ability to get at every part of their prey, they can even crush bone. Spotted hyenas will also scavenge for kills. Spotted hyenas will scavenge for kills by using their senses to find a carcass. Once they find the carcass they will consume it. If the carcass is being guarded by other predators who just recently made the kill, the spotted hyenas will try to intimidate the other predators so they can steal the kill. Spotted Hyenas live in groups called clans and and can have up to 80 members. Instead of them being led by a dominant male the spotted hyenas are led by a dominant female. With spotted hyenas the dominant female is the highest ranking member, then the other females, then the cubs, and then the adult males. The female cubs will inherit the rank of their mothers. The gestation period for a spotted hyena is around 110 days. The offspring of the spotted hyena are referred to as cubs. A newborn spotted hyena cub will weigh around 1.5kg which is about 3.3 pounds. Spotted hyena cubs are born with their eyes open. Spotted hyena cubs are also born with canine teeth which will be around 6-7mm long which is about 0.24-0.28 inches long. Spotted hyenas are also born with 4mm long incisors which is about 0.16 inches long. As for lifespan, a spotted hyena will live for up to around 25 years.
